Pipe repair works at Melana Indah PPR expected to be completed in next three months

JOHOR BARU: The underground water pipe repair works at the Melana Indah People's Housing Project (PPR) in Taman Perling are expected to be completed within the next three months.

Johor housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the repair and upgrading works are managed by the Johor Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ).

"The repairs will take some time and require teamwork from various departments and private sectors.

"PKPJ received the first report of water disruption on July 1 and has immediately placed its manpower to monitor the situation and ensure that the residents have enough water supply," he said when contacted.

The second water disruption report was received on July 7 and investigations revealed that the underground water pipe had burst, he said.

"Ranhill SAJ deployed a water tanker to the residential area on the same day and has conducted repair works on the burst pipe.

"The company then sent another 10 water tankers on July 9 to meet the high demand for Hari Raya Aidiladha and filled up the water tanks at the PPR," he said, adding that the situation was under control.

For the long-term approach, Mohd Jafni said PKPJ is in the midst of replacing all the pipes at PPR Melana 1, and improving the water pump system.

"The final phase will involve testing the entire process chain to ensure that it is running properly," he said.

He said this when commenting on Perling assemblyman and state Opposition chief Liew Chin Tong's statement on the frequent water disruptions at PPR Melana Indah on July 13.
